Will Biotechnology/IT Save the World?
The Revolutionary P4 Medicine Approach
Carnegie Institution
Washington, DC

Cancelled
At our 8th annual Conference, the BIO IT Coalition will examine the changes envisioned to take place in healthcare and biotechnology and assesses upcoming opportunities and challenges. On April 22, 2009 we will analyze the potential of systems biology for revamping the practice and business of healthcare.
Medicine is moving toward a revolutionary change, according to our keynote speaker, Dr. Leroy Hood, President of the Institute for Systems Biology. Emerging technologies, such as measurement and visualization, will alter medicine over the next 10 years. Systems biology, together with pioneering changes in DNA sequencing, blood protein measurements, nanotechnology, and powerful new computational and mathematical tools, will transform medicine from its currently reactive state to a mode that is predictive, personalized, preventive and participatory (P4). This, in turn. will lead to the digitalization of medicine and ultimately to a profound decrease in the cost of healthcare. It will also overhaul business strategies for virtually every sector of the healthcare industry.
This all day meeting will engender a dialogue to guide leading scientists, technologists, business people, lawyers, regulatory and policy experts, economic development specialists, educators and others in attendance towards restructuring the future of healthcare and medical technology. Finding solutions to the challenges ahead will provide many scientific and business opportunities.
Attendees will find out first hand about new concepts and will interact with leaders in systems biology, medicine, education, ethics, government, business and more. As usual, we will offer a special arts and science element for our attendees.
