Dr. Jennie Hunter-Cevera Receives the BIO IT Coalition's "BIO IT LEADERS" Award

Jennie Hunter-Cevera, Ph.D., President of UMBI was the recipient of the BIO IT Coalition's BIO IT LEADERS award, on May 12 , 2009.  Sabatino's Restaurant in Baltimore was the setting for a BIO IT Coalition luncheon to honor Dr. Hunter-Cevera's staff from Baltimore and Rockville.  Eileen Mandell presented Dr. Hunter-Cevera with a framed Amy Lamb print depicting a camellia, with a plaque attached which read, "BIO IT Leaders Award, Jennie Hunter-Cevera, Ph.D., The Art-Science Connection, Exploring Beauty, Mystery and Creativity in Art and Science to Benefit Humanity, May 12, 2009."

Dr. Hunter -Cevera has been a supporter of the BIO IT Coalition since its 2003 Conference and is a member of the Coalition Advisory Board.  As a 2008 Conference sponsor, she was delighted to introduce and bring UMBI support to the art/ science connection as the Liz Lerman Dance Exchange performed selections of its Ferocious Beauty, Genome on the '08 Conference stage.  Her ten year term as President of University of Maryland Biotechnology Institute (UMBI) is ending as she takes a new position as Executive Vice President of Discovery and Analytical Sciences and Corporate Development for RTI International in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina.

Dr Jennie Hunter-Cevera is a visionary and a leader in the biotechnology and business fields and has been a strong proponent of a vibrant biotech sector in the Baltimore Washington region.  Her success in academia and research, as well as her strong ability to use available resources and build effective coalitions, has improved the industry in this region and beyond.
