DR. FRANCIS COLLINS WILL BE THE KEYNOTE SPEAKER AT
THE 7TH ANNUAL BIO IT COALITION CONFERENCE
Dr. Francis Collins, MD, Ph.D., director of the National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) at the National Institutes of Health, whose continuing research of the human genome may lead to disease prevention and cures, will be the keynote speaker at the BIO IT Coalitions 7th annual conference. "The State of Healthcare and Medical Technology in 2028" will take place on April 23, 2008 at the Carnegie Institution in Washington, DC. Dr. Collins, a physician-geneticist, is highly regarded for his landmark discoveries of disease genes and is optimistic about the chances of uncovering hereditary contributors to common diseases, such as heart disease, diabetes cancer, and mental illness.
"In our 2008 conference, we will continue to examine the promises of and challenges for medical technology development and healthcare in the coming decades in light of the genomics revolution," said Steve Mandell, Chairman of the BIO IT Coalition and a partner of Pepper Hamilton LLP. "We'll look out 20 years to predict the state of the healthcare industry in 2028. Dr. Collins is the perfect guide to lead us into the complex world of the human genome and its impact on the future of human health and the business of life sciences." The 2008 meeting will consider future health care products, funding, and policies.
After breakfast and Dr. Collins' presentation, the conference will feature a scholarship awards luncheon, discussions about the key issues that affect the Bio IT industry, a thought provoking, entertaining, multi-media dance program/discussion by the Liz Lerman Dance Exchange entitled, "Ferocious Beauty: Genome," and conclude with a networking cocktail hour.
BIO IT Coalition monthly and annual events feature high quality speakers in the sciences and technologies involved in the Bio IT Industry. Attendees of these events are given ample opportunity to network with each other and meet speakers and presenters in complementary fields.
The BIO IT Coalition bridges the life sciences and information technology industries to promote the growth of the Bio IT industry through interactive, content driven programs which highlight innovation, investment, education, collaboration and partnership. This industry expansion will result in faster development and delivery of new therapies and diagnostics, better patient care, and other life science related technologies, goods and services.
